Biography

Jill Morrison was appointed Clerk of Senate and Vice Principal on 1st of August 2018. She is Professor of General Practice and was a GP in Bathgate for 31 years before stepping down from this role to concentrate on her Clerk of Senate duties. She is also an Associate in the Institute of Health and Wellbeing and continues to be active in research in a number of areas of general practice and primary care.

Prior to taking up the Clerk of Senate role, she was Dean for Learning and Teaching in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences for eight years. She co-leads a module of the online MSc in Primary Care on Long Term Conditions, having previously led the Long Term Conditions Action Team for the National Framework Advisory Group for the Scottish Government. She has chaired the West of Scotland Additional Cost of Teaching Group since 2007.

She graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MBChB and an MSc and PhD in General Practice. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Academy of Medical Educators, the Higher Education Academy and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. She was awarded the President’s Medal of the Academy of Medical Educators in 2010 and received an Honorary Doctorate in 2013 from the University of Orebro in Sweden for helping to set up a new Medical School.
