Research interests

Dr Braehler gained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Edinburgh.  She researched links between childhood trauma and psychosis when working at the Douglas Hospital Mental Health University Institute, McGill University, Canada.  During her first post as a clinical psychologist within Community Mental Health Services in NHS Ayrshire & Arran she conducted a feasibility randomised controlled trial of Compassion Focused Therapy for recovery after psychosis alongside Professor Andrew Gumley and Dr Janice Harper.  She is based in Munich, Germany where she works in private practice and teaches Compassion Focused Therapy and the Mindful Self-Compassion Programme.  Her research interests focus on exploring mechanisms of affect regulation in psychosis, developing effective psychotherapeutic interventions to reduce emotional distress associated with psychosis and evaluating compassion-based approaches in general.
