Neighbourhoods and Health

Aims and Objectives

The aim of this programme is to further our understanding of the ways in which aspects of the local social and physical environment interact to influence health and the ability to lead a healthy life. Building on our previous work our objectives are to continue to explore the location and distribution of heath promoting/damaging amenities and resources; how these are used; how they relate to health; and how they and their social meaning change over time. We propose to examine: lag times; the relative importance of subjective and objective measures of neighbourhoods; and both physical and social exposures. We will also investigate differential neighbourhood exposures and vulnerabilities by age, socio-economic status, gender and rurality.
