table with money HEHTA researchers, along with colleagues from MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, participated in an IHW public engagement morning with P3 and P4 pupils at The Glasgow Academy, on 23rd May 2017 as part of the pupils’ ‘Health Week’.

wall of sticky notesThe HEHTA  team presented ‘The Health Minister’s Dilemma’ in a child-friendly format and combined this with a thought-provoking ‘Value Tree Exercise’, measuring quality of life, giving the pupils an insight into the decision-making processes involved in health economics. The activites were aimed at introducing the idea of trade-offs/prioritisation when allocating resources with a fixed healthcare budget and understanding what aspects of healthcare the children would choose to fund, when presented with a number of options. Around 200 children took part throughout the morning, with very positive feedback from pupils and teachers alike.
