Become an Athena SWAN panellist

Published: 1 May 2018

Anyone with experience of higher education may apply to serve on an Athena SWAN awards panel, gaining invaluable experience of and insight into the process, and useful networking opportunities

Applications for Athena SWAN awards are reviewed by small groups of individuals who currently work (or have worked in the past) in higher education, with panellists recruited from the following groups:

  • Academics
  • Technical services staff
  • HR or E&D practitioners
  • Other professional services staff with experience of higher education
  • Students

Serving on an AS panel offers an invaluable insight into the assessment process, and is also an opportunity for individuals to share their knowledge of matters relating to equality, diversity and inclusion, and build professional networks.

Assessment panels last one full day and take place in central London (all reasonable travel costs are met) and panellists are asked to read in detail up to five submissions in advance, each taking 3-4 hours to read and assess.

If you think you may be interested in this role, more information is available here or you may email the AS team directly at athena.swan@advance-he.ac.uk.
