The 2019 IHW Research Away Day was a great success, with 207 delegates attending.

The day began with Institute highlights from the past year and ended with discussion of Athena Swan led by new AS champion Dr Cindy Gray (above) and how we can improve our working environment.

Photo of winners of 3 minute thesis competition, IHW research awayday 2019In between we had interesting talks on new and ongoing research, sessions on preparing for presentations and increasing our research impact, and another fantastic 3 Minute Thesis competition, the winners of which were as follows:

  1. Amy Ferguson (above centre)
Early lark, late owl or permanently exhausted pigeon?
  2. Heather McClelland (above right)
A systemic review investigating the longitudinal relationship between loneliness and suicidal ideation and behaviour
  3. Marianne McCallum (above left)
Multimorbidity Plus: exploring GP work in deprived areas

The Institute tagline competition resulted in a landslide victory for:

“Leading research; improving health; tackling inequalities”

Of those who completed the evaluation questionnaire, 77% found the day useful. Please continue to pass on your feedback so that next year’s away day can be even better!

Thanks again to everyone who helped to make this event a success, especially to Claire Hastie and Ross McQueenie who organised the day.
