Young Life Scientists' Symposium 2018

Young Life Scientists' Symposium 2018

‌After months of preparation and hard work, the Young Life Scientists’ Symposium finally took place on November 15th at the TIC building in Glasgow. With about 70 early career researchers attending, the event was very well received, with some delegates even traveling from as far as India to present their work at the symposium! With several excellent presentations by ECRs and the more senior keynote speakers, delegates also took the chance to attend one of a selection of three workshops. Towards the end of the symposium, four brave scientists performed their science inspired stand-up comedy sets with some wine and beer loosening up the mood, while demonstrating another way of public engagement. If you feel inspired by these brave souls, contact your local Brightclub coordinator – the next Glasgow show is in January!

This day filled with science talks and interactions was rounded off by dinner and a ceilidh at Sloans. Who knew that ceilidh-dancing was such a great way of getting to know other delegates? Of course, chatting had to wait for the breaks between dances but it was lovely to talk in a different environment.

The organizing committee (Dr Sophie Bradley, Dr Mario Rossi, Miriam Scarpa and Sarah Hesse) were delighted with the outcome and had a fantastic time!
