Helen Walden runs the Virgin Money London Marathon!
Congratulations to Helen who ran the Virgin Money London Marathon in under 5 hours! Raising over £5k! Read Helen's story below:
HeartUK is the UK's cholesterol charity, raising support and awareness for families with Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH). FH is an inherited disease that prevents the body being able to clear cholesterol from the blood, leading to build-up in arteries. Left untreated, many people with FH have a very high risk of heart attack.
My husband has FH. He had a heart attack aged 39. His own father died of a heart attack in his early 40s. Both my children have inherited the condition. We are lucky, because we know our kids have FH. HeartUK estimates that 1 in 250 have FH, but that fewer than 1 in 8 of those affected know they are affected. By running the London Marathon in 2019, I aim to raise as much money as possible to support HeartUK's essential work in raising awareness of FH, of lobbying for national tests and registers of those affected. Please help me to do this.
My beloved Dad died in September 2018, also of a heart attack. I will be running in his memory and for my childrens' future.
On a lighter note, I will also have to tackle the huge training involved in the depths of the Scottish winter. Your support will help me to get out for those long runs in freezing conditions!
Thank you! Love, Helen
