I am undertaking a PhD looking into anthelmintic resistance in field populations of sheep nematodes. In particular I am concerned with genetic markers of ivermectin resistance in the abomasal nematode Teladorsagia circumcincta. This nematode is highly prevelant in the UK and other temperate climates and is the primary pathogen in the production limiting disease 'Parasitic Gastroenteritis'. At the time of writing this ivermectin resistance is understood to be polygenic in character, with no dominant cause yet identified.
