Glasgow ranked top amongst the UK veterinary schools for research quality with the highest score (grade point average) in the recent Research Excellence Framework.

In the recent UK-wide Research Excellence Framework researchers from the Institute of Biodiversity Animal Health & Comparative Medicine, the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research, and the School of Veterinary Medicine in the College of Medical Veterinary and Life Sciences contributed to Glasgow’s submission to Unit of Assessment 6 (Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Science).

Glasgow was ranked as lead amongst the UK veterinary schools for research quality and 3rd of 29 submissions across the UK. Contributing to the overall excellence was the research environment, of which 88% was assessed as world-leading (4*) in terms of originality and significance. For the first time the impact of academic research on the economy and society was assessed; in this our work with national and international governments, agencies and industry has led to significant impacts on policy and animal health, with 82% of this component judged as outstanding (4*).
