The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.

The University of Glasgow is currently preparing its submission for REF2021, which will be made by 31 March 2021.

Institutional performance in the REF is very important for the University. It drives the amount of funding we receive from the Scottish Funding Council via the Research Excellence Grant.  Performance in the REF is also one of the key measures by which our research is judged by our peers and is important for the University’s research reputation.
