My group’s research is focused on understanding the biosynthesis, function and degradation of polysaccharide components of the plant cell wall. Despite these polysaccharides being some of the most abundant on Earth, and having enormous nutritional, agricultural, and industrial importance, surprisingly little is known about the genes and enzymes that carry out their synthesis.
Practical aspects of this research interests include:
- timber as a replacement material in building construction
- packaging from plants not fossil fuels
- biocomposting recycling of biobased materials
- soil carbon.
