My Phd, 'Investigating the marine citizenship and its role in creating good marine environmental health', is an interdisciplinary examination of the concept of marine citizenship as viewed through psychology, law, geography and political lenses. I am concerned with how we create a marine engaged citizenry and what a relationship with the ocean can do to stimulate pro-environmental behaviours and wider civic participation. I am also interested in marine decision-making institutions and how the public can more effectively participate in shaping the future human-ocean relationship. I am currently awaiting viva voce examination. I also sit on the Ocean Literacy Working Group, an expert panel working on ocean literacy as a policy area.
