My current research interests include:

  • Public access, use, and creation of environmental information 
  • Participatory methodologies for research 
  • Citizen science, participatory mapping, and participatory Geographic Information Science (GIS)
  • Science of citizen science: understanding patterns of contribution, motivation, spatial and temporal aspects 
  • Policy aspects of citizen science in environmental decision making 
  • Human-Computer Interaction of participatory geographic technologies 

Muki Haklay is founder and co-director of UCL Extreme Citizen Science group and recognised as one of the leading researchers in the field of citizen science and participatory approaches to the production and use of geographic information.
