Jess Britton is a Research Fellow in the Energy Policy Group at the University of Exeter working on heat decarbonisation and the local governance needs of a smart, flexible energy system.
Her research focusses on understanding the role of decentralised actors in energy system change and how this relates to local, regional and national governance structures.
She has published in relation to heat networks and devolved governance, the role of cities in smart energy systems, Local Enterprise Partnerships and the low carbon economy, and heat decarbonisation.
She has carried out academic consultancy for Ofgem, Sustainability First, CSE and Bristol Green Capital. Jess is a member of BEIS’ Smart Systems Forum and the Smart Meter Data Public Interest Advisory Group.
