Professor Steve Beaumont

‌Emeritus Vice Principal, University of Glasgow

Professor Steve Beaumont is a well-known figure in research and knowledge exchange in Scotland, throughout his research career and then ten years as Vice-Principal for Research and Enterprise at the University of Glasgow.

Throughout his career as an academic and then as Head of Department of Electronics & Engineering, Steve had a clear focus on the importance of applying research to an industrial setting, working in collaboration with industry to achieve real outcomes. His commitment to the enterprise agenda led to the foundation of Kelvin Nanotechnology Ltd and Compound Semiconductor Technology Ltd, providing services in nanotechnology and optoelectronic device fabrication respectively. He was also Director of CST’s successor company, CST Global Ltd.

During his role as VP, Steve oversaw the University’s enterprise activities, including research links with industry and the promotion of spinout companies. After leaving the position of VP in 2013, Steve continues to supports world-leading collaborative research in intelligent sensor networks and systems and is the Academic Lead for CENSIS, the Innovation Centre for Sensor and Imaging Systems. He is also the Director of QuantIC, the UK’s Centre of excellence for research, development and innovation in quantum enhanced imaging, bringing together the Universities of Glasgow, Bristol, Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt, Warwick, Oxford and Strathclyde with more than 30 industry partners.#
