UNESCO Chair Refugee Cycle

UNESCO Chair Refugee Cycle

Issued: Fri, 18 May 2018 15:59:00 BST

Join us on a physical and mental journey around themes of migration.

No ordinary guided bike ride!

There is considerable interest in the UK and across Europe in the process of the resettlement and integration of displaced peoples. Some of these people have ended up in Glasgow, which provides us with a chance to learn from their experience, as well as an opportunity to share our own local knowledge. We believe that what is good for refugees is good for everyone, which is why we have organised an event to bring refugees, migrants and local communities together for a moment of inter-action.

This guided bicycle ride through the West of Glagow will start at Bike for Good, cycle via Scotstoun, Knightswood, along the canal, Maryhill, past the Botanics and back to Bike for Good.

Participants will cycle a pre-determined route in small groups, accompanied by experienced ride leaders. At regular intervals along the route, there will be informative performances and activities by the UNESCO RILA Artists in Residence and our partners. Central themes are (forced) migration, community building and hospitality.

This event is FREE and open to all, but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Basic bike riding skills are needed. For those without a bike, free bikes will be available on site (to be reserved in advance during registration). If you need a children's bike, please contact us to check availability.
