COP26 and Laudato Si’

National Poster Competition for Catholic Schools

“The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all.” (Pope Francis, Laudato Si’)

What is it all about?

Pope Francis wrote a letter to every person on this planet urging them to protect the Earth, our ‘common home’. This letter was called Laudato Si’. You can watch a short video about it here. Pope Francis encourages us to work together to create a better world for future generations and asks us to make important changes in our lives in order to take care of, respect and value our common home. His letter deals with many environmental issues including pollution; climate change; water and loss of biodiversity.

COP26 is a United Nations global conference on climate change and is coming to Glasgow in November! It presents schools with a wonderful opportunity to reflect on Pope Francis’ message to us all.  The St Andrew’s Foundation’s Spiritual and Pastoral Planning Team invites pupils to participate—creatively—in doing just that!

National Competition! Get involved!

We invite all school pupils in Scotland to design a poster that conveys their message to the world on what needs to be done to protect their common home—God’s creation—and make it a better and safer world for future generations.

There are four age categories:

P1-3; P4-7; S1-3; S4-6

How will the posters be judged?

Posters will be judged on:

  • Creativity—is it eye-catching and innovative?
  • Content—is it clear, accurate and informative about climate change and God’s creation?
  • Communication—is it presented and communicated in an engaging way?

Sustainability is also encouraged. Think about the materials you could use to create the poster!

There will be one winner and two runners up in each age category.
