Next generation sequencing bioinformatics course bursaries

Description: These enable individuals to attend a course that aims to equip participants with the essential informatics skills and knowledge required to begin analysing next generation sequencing data, to be held in October 2020 at the Wellcome Genome Campus, UK. Bursaries cover up to 50 per cent of the course fee.

Sir Henry Dale Fellowships

Description: These support postdoctoral researchers who aim to become independent scientists leading their own groups addressing an important research question within their scientific remit. Fellowships are tenable for five years and usually provide around £1.2 million, including salary and research expenses.

MRC Career Development Awards (CDA) 

Description: This scheme supports talented post-doctoral researchers to lead their own research plans and establish their own research team to make the transition from post-doctoral researcher to independent investigator.  It provides funding for a challenging research programme, and an ambitious programme of research training which offers accelerated personal and career development.

The Royal Society International Exchanges Scheme - Standard Programme

Description: This scheme is designed to offer a flexible platform for UK based scientists to interact with the best scientists around the world, stimulating new collaborations.  Funds for a contribution towards travel, subsistence and research expenses can be requested for either a one-off short visit to explore opportunities for building last networks, or for bilateral visits to strengthen emerging collaborations.

MRC Applied Global Health Research Board

Description: This new Board funds global health research that is embedded within local contexts in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).  Proposals should focus on ideas that will have real world practical application to improve health.  Principal Investigators in LMICs can apply directly to the Board without the need for a UK partner.  Applications led by UK PIs must include LMIC co-applicants and be founded upon genuine equitable partnerships.

EIC Horizon prize for early warning of epidemics

Description: The challenge is to develop a scalable, reliable and cost-effective early warning system prototype to forecast and monitor vector-borne diseases in order to contribute to the prevention of outbreaks mitigating their impact on local, regional and global scales and providing support to existing elimination efforts.

BBSRC FAPESP Pump-Priming Awards (FAPPA)

Description: This scheme is run jointly with Brazil's Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) to pump-prime collaborations between scientists in the UK and the Sao Paulo State, Brazil to promote the exchange of scientists and access to facilities and materials.  It encourages applications under the RCUK-FAPESP lead agency agreement.
