Course Aims

The dissertation provides students with an opportunity to conceive, develop and execute a piece of independent research in the field of museum studies. It will provide a research focus for students to test ideas and arguments of the academic and professional communities and develop their own arguments and insights.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the completion of the dissertation students will be able to demonstrate that they can:

■ Successfully identify and summarise existing scholarship relating to their chosen topic

■ Appropriately situate their research in wider context of Museum Studies

■ Research, compile and critically analyse relevant evidence

■ Demonstrate relevant, detailed and informed knowledge of the chosen topic

■ Synthesize learning and practice from other courses

■ Critically assess their topic and their contribution to it

■ Coherently present the results of their research in an appropriate written fashion
