Assessment

Assessment will primarily be in the form of a substantial written report on the work carried out during the course. The requirements of the report will vary depending on the agreed programme of study and will be specified in writing at the start of the course. A verbal presentation may also be required.

Course Aims

This aim of this course is to give the opportunity to study an aspect of Geomatics at an advanced level. The focus is on contemporary research, conceptual and practical issues in Geomatics. The topic will be agreed in advance with an appropriate supervisor.

It is intended primarily as a substitute for a taught course within the MSc programmes where a student has previously completed a similar course, or to facilitate a suitable part-time curriculum for the student.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

  Given that this course will be customised to meet individual student needs, specific learning outcomes cannot be given, however there will be general outcomes for all students

On completing this course, students will be able to:

■ Discuss in detail a current issue in Geomatics.

■ Use library and on-line resources to access information about current issues in Geomatics.

■ Present summaries of current issues orally and in writing.

■ Work independently in solving limited, but advanced problems in Geomatics.

■ Discuss the importance of certain current issues in Geomatics to the overall development of the field.
