This course provides students with enhanced mathematical, statistical and computational techniques to support the study of Geomatics

Assessment

Report on coordinate projection and transformation exercise (including computational files) - 70%

1 hour in class essay - Least squares - 20%

During course - maths tests 10%

Course Aims

To enable students to instigate a projection change using available and self-developed software;

To deepen understanding of projections and transformations

To introduce the principles and use of Least Squares in surveying & mapping.

To further prepare students in the mathematical, statistical and computational techniques to support the study of Geomatics.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

  On completing this course students will be able to:

■ interact with projections and transformations at the mathematical level and evaluate the results

■ write short python programs that are building on a basic introduction to python;

■ explain the principles and applications of least squares in surveying & mapping;

■ be able to perform calculations for basic calculus and variance propagation
