This course considers the importance of the finance function within organisations in connection with decision making, control and performance management.

Course Aims

The course aims to give students a broad perspective on accounting and finance and its importance in organisations together with an introduction to some of the practical skills involved in the interpretation and usage of financial information and reports.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Interpret business balance sheets and income statements.

■ Utilise theories of business finance in capital investment appraisal

■ Use the capital asset pricing model to determine company cost of capital

■ Explain and apply approaches to performance management within the organisation

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
