  • a contribution to student travel and installation costs
  • a monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme

Contribution to the participation costs (tuition fees)

The Tuition fee will be fully covered by the scholarship contribution and the Consortium

€4,500 per year per scholarship holder from a Programme Country

€9,000 per year per scholarship holder from a Partner Country

Any amount in excess of these contributions will be covered by the CEERES consortium and will not be charged to the scholarship holder.

Contribution to subsistence costs will not  be given to Partner country scholarship holders for periods exceeding 3 months spent in any Partner country

Definition of Erasmus Programme and Partner Countries

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • EMJMD scholarship holders must spend at least two complete mobility periods in at least two of the consortium's full degree awarding partners which are located in different Programme Countries (i.e. 2 complete mobility periods in Programme Countries different from country of residence*). Each of these mandatory mobility periods must include a volume of study/research or equivalent corresponding to at least 30 ECTS.   For the IMCEERES course this means Tartu (30 ECTS) and Glasgow (30 ECTS).  IMCEERES students also undertake 3rd mobility period in one of the degree partner universities.  * i.e. Students resident in the UK or Estonia are required to attend Jagiellonian University in Poland OR Corvinus University of Budapest in Hungary in year 2 in order to comply with mobility requirements.
  • Contribution to subsistence costs will not be given to scholarship holders from a Partner country for periods exceeding three months of the EMJMD spent in any Partner country. i.e. an American student attending KIMEP in year 2 will receive the scholarship payments for 3 months.  Students can return to Glasgow or Tartu thereafter to continue to receive the stipend.
  • Contribution to subsistence costs will not be given to scholarship holders for periods of the EMJMD spent in their country of residence. i.e. students resident in the UK at the time of application will not receive the scholarship stipend for the semeter spent at Glasgow.

General Principles and Regulations

  • EMJMD student scholarships cover the entire duration of the Master course and are awarded exclusively for full-time enrolment in the course.  Scholarship candidates must have already obtained a first higher education degree or demonstrate a recognised equivalent level of learning according to national rules and legislation in place. Candidates who will only obtain their first higher education degree at the end of the academic year preceding the EMJMD intake can nevertheless apply for a scholarship and can be selected by the consortium, under the condition that the student obtains the required degree prior to the beginning of the Master course.
  • Students who have already obtained an EMJMD scholarship or are former Action 1 Erasmus Mundus Master/Doctoral scholarship holders are not eligible for an additional scholarship under the EMJMD action. Students benefiting from an EMJMD scholarship cannot benefit from another EU grant while persuing their EMJMD scholarship studies.
* i.e. Students resident in the UK are required to attend Jagiellonian University in Poland OR Corvinus University of Budapest in Hungary for 1 semester in year 2 in order to comply with mobility requirements.
  • The mandatory mobility periods cannot be replaced by virtual mobility neither can they take place in institutions outside the consortium
  • Contribution to subsistence costs will not be given to scholarship holders from a Partner country for periods exceeding three months of the EMJMD spent in any Partner country.
  • Contribution to subsistence costs will not be given to scholarship holders for periods of the EMJMD spent in their country of residence

Nationality, Residency and the 12 Month Rule

Scholarships are dependent on both nationality and residency.

Students with a double nationality (of a Partner and of a Programme Country) must specify the nationality under which they submit their scholarship application.

When determining the contribution to participation costs, the Consortium defines the student category - either Programme country or Partner country.  The definition of the student category depends on his/her nationality and on whether the student resided in a Programme country for more than 12 months over the last five years before applying (applicable only to students with Partner country nationality).  Therefore:

  • Students whose nationality is one of the Erasmus+ Programme countries count as Programme country students and should apply using the Programme country application form.
  • Students whose nationality is one of the Erasmus+ Partner countries and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, training or work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in a Programme country are considered as Partner country students. The five year reference period for this 12 month rule is calculated backwards from the submission deadline (ie the 5 year period from 26 January 2019 to 26 January 2024). Apply using the Partner country application form.
  • Students whose nationality is one of the Erasmus+ Partner countries who do not fulfil the Partner country criteria defined above (12 month rule) count as Programme country students and should apply using the Programme country application form.
  • Example:  an American student who lived in Germany for 13 months, 3 years before 26 January 2024 should apply as a Programme country student;   a Mexican student who has been living in Spain for 11 months at 26 January 2024 (and never before in the 5 year period) should apply as a Partner country student.
  • Please provide EXACT dates on your CV to avoid delays in verifying eligibility.

The contribution to travel and installation costs takes into account only the residence (as determined above, at 26 Janaury 2024) of the scholarship holder regardless of the category under which the student has applied.

Students offered a scholarship will be required to provide proof of residency:

  • a residence certificate issued in accordance with the candidate's municipality normal registration rules
  • a certificate form the candidate's place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question

Both documents must have been issued within 12 months before the scholarship submission deadline.

Selection Procedure and Timetable

Selection Timetable

01 October 2023 Online application form becomes available
26 January 2024 Deadline for ALL scholarship applicants
by 1st April 2024 The applicants received preliminary notification of scholarship results
01 May 2024 Deadline for self-funding applications

Eligibility check

All applications are subject to an eligibility check which covers all aspects of the application: respect of the application deadline, completeness of the application file, eligibility of the candidate in relation to the Erasmus Mundus criteria. Applicants who fail to provide necessary documentation by the appropriate deadline will be excluded from the application procedure and will be informed of the specific reason for ineligibility.

Scholarship Competition

To be eligible to be considered for scholarship, students must first have secured a place on the degree programme (unconditional or conditional).  The University of Glasgow Postgraduate Admissions Office assesses all applications and will reply directly to the applicant to let them know if they have been offered a place.   Applicants who receive an offer of a place on the degree programme, and who have submitted the scholarship application on time, will be put forward to the scholarship competition.

Selection Criteria

The CEERES Consortium Selection Committee assesses each application according to the following criteria:

  • Academic merit (e.g. relevance and level of academic qualifications) - 30%
  • CEERES Supporting Personal Statement - 45%
  • Quality of (academic) references - 10%
  • Other (e.g. relevant research/professional experiences/interests) - 15%

Important

When a main list scholarship student withdraws, he/she is replaced by the first eligible candidate on the reserve list. In this particular case, the eligibility criterion concerns the nationality of the reserve list candidate and the rule concerning the presence of a maximum of three nationals from the same country among the scholarship holders in each intake. If there are already three other students with the same nationality on the main list, the consortium will have to take the next eligible candidate respecting its own ranking list (European Commission's regulations).

Appeal procedure for candidates who fail to secure a scholarship

All candidates will be notified of the decision of the Scholarship Selection Committee by email only in early April. Candidates who do not secure a scholarship and who wish to appeal the decision of the Scholarship Selection Committee must do so in writing by email within 2 weeks (14 days) from the point of notification by the CEERES Consortium of their failure to win a scholarship. The email should be addressed to the CEERES Consortium at the following address: imceeres@glasgow.ac.uk . The email subject heading should contain the words "CEERES Scholarship Appeal". The reasons for the appeal must be clearly stated in the email. Note: A candidate may appeal ONLY on the grounds of defective or unfair procedure by the CEERES Scholarship Selection Committee.

IMCEERES Tuition Fees

CEERES Tuition Fees

Fees for the 2024-2026 edition are:

  • €18,094 (Euro)/£16,000 (GBP) per annum for International (non-European) students
  • €8,391 (Euro)/£7,420 (GBP) per annum  for  European students

The fees charged to students reflect the fee and funding regime established by the European Commission in respect of Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree programmes.  This means that, for this programme, fees paid by EU students are the same as those paid by UK students.

Fees are converted to £GBP using the Erasmus Mundus approved currency converter, normally using the May previous to year of entry as the exchange rate.

The participation costs for both non-European and European scholarship students cover all tuition fees and health insurance; they do not include accommodation or other living expenses and travel.
