Research title: The Archaeological, Landscape and Historical Context of the Galloway Hoard

Research Summary

My PhD research is looking at the early medieval landscape of Galloway around the time of the Galloway Hoard's deposition (800-1100). I am taking an interdisciplinary approach in order to bring together all available forms of evidence to try to get a picture of the social landscape of Galloway over this time period.

My research interests include Viking-Age archaeology, early medieval Scotland and the Viking eastern expansion.

Grants

My PhD project is joint-funded by University of Glasgow and Historic Environment Scotland

My fieldwork has been supported by a Seedcorn Grant from the Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies and by a student bursary from ScARF.

I recieved a University of Glasgow Research Support Award to present a poster at the 19th Viking Congress. I was also awarded a student bursary from the Cumbria and Westmorland Archaeological and Antiquarian Society's Clare Fell Fund to attend the Viking Congress study tour.  My attendance at TAG has been supported by a ScARF student bursary.
