Research title: Improving the SEP licensing framework by revising SSOs' IPR policies

Research Summary

I am interested in all aspects of patent law and particularly the relationship between patents and competition law. I mostly worked on patent matters in the pharmaceuticals/life sciences sector and my current research is focused on the ICT market so I have a very good understanding of these sectors.

I am also working on technology law matters and presented several papers on the issues such as data ownership; social media advertising and data analytics; regulation of online marketplaces (e.g. Uber and Airbnb) and digital markets; algorithms and pricing collusion.

Current research

I have been investigating the SEP licensing framework to see whether it could be improved by revising SSOs’ IPR policies. The research covers the US and the EU as jurisdictions and focuses on the ICT sector. I aim to understand the standardisation ecosystem and propose solutions that can be implemented in practice (rather than theoretical ones). Thus, I have been also testing the viability of the potential proposals through interviewing professionals who are active in standardisation.
