Research title: Working Title: Driving necessary innovation or “Generally Inconvenient”: Do patents help or hinder meeting the challenges of modern global crises? What proposals, if any, might we make for change in the United Kingdom and in an international context
Louise is researching patent law and the extent to which, with a UK focus, patents do (or do not) drive the necessary innovation, at the necessary speed, in critical sectors like healthcare and climate change.
Louise is a qualified Commercial and Intellectual Property Solicitor, with ten years' experience advising businesses on Commercial and IP legal matters. She trained with a top Scottish law firm, before joining their Commercial and IP team.
She holds a First Class LLB from the University of Glasgow and joined the University's Contracts and Legal team in 2021. Before coming to work at the University, she was a senior lawyer for a major US digital technology company.
She began her part-time Phd studies in January 2022.
