Research title: Calculating a blue carbon budget for contemporary Caribbean coral reefs under global climate change conditions

Research Summary

For my PhD thesis, I measured the metabolic processes of the coral reef benthos at distinct scales, including organism, community and ecosystem-wide levels, using an array of biogeochemical techniques.  I trained in carbonate chemistry and geochemical lab techniques at the Marine Biogeochemistry lab of Nova Southeastern University and undertook two graduate placements at the Ocean Acidification Laboratory at Mote International Center for Coral Reef Restoration and Research in the Florida Keys. I am also a member of the CORALIUM research group at the National Autonomous University of Mexico where my role includes coordinating a coral spawning field collection site each summer.
