Race Equality Group seeking new representatives

The University of Glasgow is committed to promoting equality in all its activities and aims to provide an inclusive community for all our students. To achieve this, it is essential we hear the views of students with from a range of ethnic backgrounds.

The University is seeking new student representatives to join the Race Equality Group. This is an opportunity for you to shape the development of the race equality work across the University, and to ensure the organisation meets its plans outlined in the Understanding Racism Transforming University Culture report and action plan.

We are seeking only new Undergraduate representatives, as Postgraduate students are already represented on the Group.  Please note, for continuity of membership, you should be planning to continue your studies at the University through to at least the end the 2023-24 academic year.

The Race Equality Group meets three times a year, for approximately two hours for each meeting. Student representatives must be willing to represent the wider student community whilst serving on the Group. You will also be asked to read the papers and comment on matters discussed by the group, these could range from commenting on the development of policies or following progress of our decolonising the curriculum work.

If you would like to put yourself forward as a representative, please submit a very brief paragraph about why you want the position and what you would think you can bring to Group in the role, please include details on your degree programme as we are keen to have representation across the University. Please submit your application to the Equality and Diversity Unit at equality@glasgow.ac.uk by 4pm on 14 October 2022.

If there are several applications, the Equality and Diversity Unit will determine the appointment.
