Glasgow University Ultimate, affectionately known as FarFlung, prides itself on being a club that offers sport to all, whilst competing at the highest level and maintaining a great social scene. We enter teams into all divisions (Men's, Women's and Mixed) at both indoor and outdoor tournaments at all levels of ability and experience, from freshers’ tournaments to UK nationals. All training sessions are mixed gender, as are some tournaments. There are tournaments most weekends and unlike other university club sports, almost everyone starts as a beginner at university. We are a very sociable club and host a wide variety of socials throughout the year.
About the Sport
Ultimate (formerly known as Ultimate Frisbee) is a limited-contact team sport played with a flying disc on a field or indoor pitch. The aim of the game is to score points by passing the disc to a player in the opposing end zone similar to an end zone in rugby or American football, but players may not run while holding the disc. Unlike almost all other team sports, ultimate does not have a referee and is instead self-officiated, relying on each player's sense of sportsmanship and fair play, known as the Spirit of the Game.
Ultimate originated in the United States in the 1960s and is one of the fastest growing sports in Europe. It was officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2015.
We are consistently one of the top competing teams in Scotland and the UK, despite the rapid turnover of players which is a natural part of university sport, a testament to the effectiveness of our training programme and quality of our club. Some of our recent results include:
