Riding Horse

The Glasgow Uni Riding Club is a highly active club thriving off winning GUSA Club of The Year in 2016! We offer riding lessons for all abilities as well as the opportunity to compete against other universities in Scotland and throughout the UK.

The best part about GURC is that no part of it requires your own horse! Even our teams train and compete on horses provided by Busby Equitation Centre, our base since September 2016.

Recreational Riding

Whether you’ve never been near a horse before or you’re an established rider without an urge to compete GURC has a lesson that’ll suit you. Lessons run in two blocks, one each semester, and you’ll be placed in a weekly lesson with those of similar ability. With lessons running nearly every day you can pick one that suits your timetable and other activities! Our flexibility makes us a perfect club to join if you’re only in Glasgow for a short time.

BUCS Teams

GURC offers those with a competitive side a chance to compete for Glasgow in the BUCS equestrian competitions! Those on teams train weekly and regularly compete to be crowned the best team in Scotland and hopefully the whole of the UK. We currently have 3 teams who are continuing GURC’s great success. In 2016/2017 all three teams made it through to the Scottish Regional Championship having topped their league. After regional success in the Easter holidays the A team qualified for the BUCS National Championship Final and the B team the National Trophy Final!

Riding Group

Socials and Equine Events

Away from horses GURC are a very active social club holding a number of socials throughout all semesters. Famous ones include ‘Pub Showjumping’, Christmas Dinner and of course the GUSA ball! For something different and a way to escape uni work we often run a variety of trips throughout the year to various equine events. Recently we have learnt to play polo and even tired our hand at golf during a sports swap with the Golf Club!

The riding club is a really fun club to get involved with, whether you’ve been riding since before you could walk or have never laid eyes on a horse before – come join us and give it a go!
