If you want to play sport and meet loads of new people then Women's Hockey (GUWHC) is the extra curricular activity for you!
On Wednesday afternoons, the 1st XI play in the BUCS league, competing in Tier 1A BUCS (British Universities & College Sports), and consistently placing well in both BUCS league and knockout cup.
Our training sessions are held at Garscube Sports Complex (see the What's On for current days/ times) and are shared between the 1XI/2XI/3XI. Regular fitness sessions are also organised within teams.
The club has a newly appointed head coach who started in September 2014 who will be utilised from 1XI down to 4XI. They will be overseeing all aspects of coaching, as well as concentrating on the development and performance level of the 1st squad. Additional coaches are present at training to help run the 2nd and 3rd squad sessions.
Our social scene is second to none and highly envied by the other clubs within the University. Our organisation and combined socials with the Men’s club mean friendships are created which go beyond the hockey field. Every year, along with the men's club, we hold a host of successful events that attract our 100 plus members. Mixed tournaments are arranged throughout the year to help create a great club atmosphere between the Women’s and Men’s club.
For those interested, an annual mixed hockey tour is organised to an exotic European destination. In the past, tours have been to Rimini, Bruges, Salou, Croatia and recently GUHC travelled to Amsterdam.
So whether you are the next Scotland striker or you are just up for a wee run around, the competitive yet social GUWHC would love to meet you.
