UofG Sport provides a variety of scholarships, bursaries and performance-level opportunities for both aspiring and professional athletes studying at the University of Glasgow.
The Meers-Grey Trust Travelling Sholarship Fund
The Meers-Grey Trust offers funding of up to £1,400 to support student-led expeditions and adventure activities. Applications are welcome from individual students, groups, or recognised societies who are matriculated at the University of Glasgow or the University of Stirling at the time of award.
Expeditions must demonstrate clear objectives, sound planning, and appropriate experience, with applicants responsible for visas, insurance, and medical preparations.

Sports Bursary 2026-27
Apply for funding to support competition, training and lifestyle expenses and get free access to University Sports Facilities.
Applications for the University of Glasgow Sports Bursary are now open.
An initial application round is available for prospective students beginning their studies in September 2026, with a deadline of 31 May 2026.
All applications — including any prospective student applications submitted after 31 May — will be reviewed at the final panel meeting, which will take place after the final deadline of 20 September 2026.

Sports Bursary Services
We provide support to our talented student athletes as they manage the demands of competing in sport at the highest level whilst undertaking their University of Glasgow degree. Many talented athletes benefit from the range of services offered and have found our University the ideal institution to allow them to develop and fulfil their sporting potential whilst studying for an academic degree.
University of Glasgow athletes include up-and-coming athletes as well as those competing at the pinnacle of international sport competition, in events such as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
A number of services are available for talented athletes at the University and supported athletes will have access to some or all of the following:
- financial support ranging from £200-£1200 per year
- free membership to UofG Sport and access to University Sports facilities
- support gaining academic flexibility
- strength and conditioning support
- sports psychology support
- nutritional advice
- links to University Sports Science Department
- performance testing
Lucian Procopciuc World University Games 2025
Lucian graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Master’s degree in Software Development. He began practising Taekwondo at the age of five and has been competing for 15 years!
We are excited to see how Lucian performs while competing for Portugal after a solid training camp. It’s also wonderful to hear how our Sport Bursary has helped fund Lucian’s international competitions, training, and sporting opportunities.
Winning Students Scholarship
Winning Students 100 is Scotland's national sports scholarship programme. It is a world-class dual-career initiative that supports 100 of the most talented student athletes enrolled in Higher and Further Education institutions across Scotland. Women's Basketball Bursary
The Dr Anne Ferguson Bursary for Basketball
Applications are welcome from any active or prospective member of the Glasgow University Women’s Basketball Club. £500 awards are made annually during Semester One.

Sutherland Golf and Law Scholarship
This scholarship supports golf athletes studying law at UofG. Female golfers must have a Handicap Index below 4, while male golfers should be 2 or lower. Please apply via the link below:
