My role is to support the academic leadership of the University in developing and implementing strategies for research and knowledge exchange, and to lead the professional team who provide central research and KE services to Colleges, Schools and individual academics. Key responsibilities include ensuring that support services across the institution are optimally organised to support research excellence and impact, and that the University is well-positioned to take advantage of research and KE funding streams.
Prior to joining the University of Glasgow I was employed at the University of York for twelve years, initially as Business Development Manager and for the last ten years as Director of Research and Enterprise. I came to the University sector from ten years of industrial research and research management in the minerals and materials industries. By background I am a chemist, with a Graduateship of the Royal Society of Chemistry from Kingston University, a PhD in organometallic chemistry from the University of Bristol and postdoctoral positions at Stanford University, the University of Florida and the University of California, Los Angeles. While at York I took a part time MBA with the Open University.
