ICT Device Showcase
February 2019 marked the first ICT Devices Showcase Event at the University of Glasgow.
The University welcomed 120 academic staff, students, policy representatives, funders and trade bodies to the campus to learn about how Glasgow University is driving exciting developments in devices, applications, and systems, which deliver transformative interactions in the digital space. The day was opened by Professor Muffy Calder, Vice Principal & Head of College of Science and Engineering, who welcomed attendees to the day, highlighting both the strong historical background in ICT Device development at Glasgow, as well as and the robust capabilities in the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre, enabling realisation of these systems.
Carol Monaghan MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Photonics and Member of the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee provided a keynote address for this event, followed by engaging industry talks from EPSRC, Toshiba, Cambridge Microsoft Research and DSTL.
A networking session with live demonstrations and poster presentations concluded the day, allowing attendees the opportunity to spark conversations with potential future collaborators. Dr Kirsty Annand, Semiconductor Knowledge Exchange Associate at the University of Glasgow, alongside Professor Richard Hogg, Professor Marc Sorel and Professor Anthony Kelly, led the showcase. Kirsty said:
‘This remarkable event was the first of its kind for the University of Glasgow, welcoming 20+ representatives from industry, policy and funding, as well as over 100 academic staff, students and early career researchers'. The showcase was an extraordinary opportunity for Glasgow to highlight not only our unparalleled facilities and outstanding academic staff base, but also to announce some incredible opportunities for PhD student recruitment via our Centre’s for Doctoral Training: lifETIME and FUSE, as well as in our new Graduate Doctoral School in Emerging Technologies (GD-SET)’.
