Mobile-friendly self-service is coming

Published: 12 February 2018

Consultations will take place this spring and summer as the University works towards launching a new Self-Service Platform.

Later this year, a new self-service platform will start to come online for UofG students and staff. This will bring in a holistic, mobile-friendly approach to delivering support, with the possibility for all University services, helpdesks and more to co-exist on the same platform, sharing common ways of working and best practice.

The new system will also support service delivery across our developing campus, including the future Learning and Teaching Hub.

Combining a service catalogue and a knowledgebase, the platform will be where you come to:

  • Request and access services
  • Get answers to your questions
  • Report faults or issues

Our current system is over 10 years old and in need of replacement. As well as mobile support and a host of opportunities for automation, the latest generation of systems offer powerful knowledge management features, so we’ll be able to see how often knowledge articles are accessed, how useful people have found them, and when they should be reviewed.

The self-service platform will be available to all students and staff, with some restricted access for visitors and the public.

Get involved

The project team, based in Information Services, looks forward to working with students, the SRC, and staff from across University Services, Schools and Colleges to develop and implement the new system.

So far we have held introductory workshops for a variety of staff and students.

For the next round of consultation we’re planning a series of scoping workshops, which will take place this Spring. Watch this space for opportunities to inform and define the look, feel, content and name of the new self-service platform.

This is the beginning of a new way of working and of getting information, services and help. We hope you will join us on this exciting journey.
