St Gallen Symposium Essay Competition

Are you a postgraduate student and leader of tomorrow? Submit your essay on the theme 'beyond the end of work' by 1 February for a chance to attend the prestigious St Gallen Symposium in Switzerland.

Are you a leader of tomorrow? Submit your entry to the St Gallen Symposium Essay Competition by 1 February for a chance to attend the 48th St Gallen Symposium.

Successful entrants will enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to Switzerland and will have the chance to discuss their ideas with leaders of today. Previous Symposia attendees have included Christine Lagarde, Jack Ma, Tidjane Thiam and Dominic Barton.

To enter, submit a professional, creative and thought-provoking essay answering the competition question:

Robots are coming for your job. How do you augment yourself to stay economically relevant?

Your submission should meet the following criteria:

  •     An essay of max. 2,100 words
  •     Written in English
  •     Submitted by 1 February 2018, 11:59pm (UTC-12)
  •     Submitted anonymously
  •     The idea and essay must be your own. Group work is not permitted.
  •     All sources must be cited and referred to in the respective part of the essay.

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

  •     Enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate programme (masters level or higher) in any field of study
  •     Born in 1988 or later

The authors of the best 100 contributions will qualify as Leaders of Tomorrow and will be invited to the symposium. The very best competitors will have the chance to present their ideas on the symposium’s big stage.

The St Gallen Symposium will take place on 2-4 May 2018 and is organised by the International Students’ Committee (ISC). Essay submissions will be evaluated by an independent jury of professors, corporate executives and entrepreneurs.
