A new MyGlasgow webpage is now live to help staff dealing with emergencies, student crises and students in distress.

What would you do if you were informed that that a student has died or is seriously ill?

What if they were at risk of violence?

Do you know the signs of a student in distress?

A new MyGlasgow webpage is now live to help staff dealing with student emergencies, crises and students in distress. Scenarios covered include crises such as student death or sexual assault, and distressing situations such as student bereavement or addiction.

Karen Morton, Head of Student Support and Wellbeing, said: “This new page gives clear guidance to staff on how to respond effectively to support students experiencing crises and difficult situations. It is vital that nobody tries to handle an emergency or crisis situation alone, the Crisis Team are always available and should be called upon to take over in the event of a crisis.”

One stop source

SRC Vice President (Student Support) Lauren McDougall said: “This will be a great one stop source of information for staff supporting students experiencing crises and distress. Staff across the University do great work supporting students experiencing a wide variety of difficult situations, and it’s really important that they know where to turn for help and that nobody is dealing with a crisis or emergency alone.”

University Chaplain Stuart MacQuarrie said: “The Crisis Team are always on hand to help staff dealing with a student emergency or crisis, and nobody should feel that they need to manage a crisis alone. The new webpage explains what kinds of situations the Crisis Team can help with, and what happens once they are involved to assist you. We know that staff are also called upon to help students experiencing all kinds of challenging non-emergency situations, and the webpages clarify how the University is best placed to help you in these circumstances.”
