11th Annual Learning and Teaching Conference

Published: 18 August 2017

The L&T Conference will take place on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th March 2018 with the theme of 'Learning Spaces'.

I am delighted to announce that the 11th Annual University of Glasgow Learning and Teaching Conference will take place on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th March 2018 with the theme of 'Learning Spaces', writes Dr Matthew J. Williamson Director, LEADS.

Following on from the success of last year's Conference, and with the campus preparing for the new Learning and Teaching Hub, this theme has been selected as a timely opportunity to discuss how we might adapt to these evolving new spaces.

Due to the growth in paper proposals and colleagues wishing to attend the Conference, for the first time this year, the conference will be held over 2 days.

We very much hope that you will be able to attend on both days, although it will be possible to sign up for either of the days singly.

The general theme for this year's conference is Learning Spaces, and sub-themes will be announced when the call for abstracts is issued later in the year. The first day of the Conference will be an opportunity to focus on an area of growing interest here at Glasgow, learning in the virtual realm and will be seeking contributions on the topic of Visualisation in Learning and Teaching.

The programme will comprise a mixture of presentations (30 minutes – 20 minutes talk and 10 minutes questions), interactive workshops (60 minutes) and - something which was very successful at last year’s conference - lightning talks. These are opportunities for colleagues to share brief details of innovations and developments in teaching practice which could be of interest to others across the University community.

The call for abstracts will open in mid September. As with previous Conferences, successful abstracts will be published in the Proceedings booklet and online formats.

We wish to continue to have as much engagement with students and student learning as possible through the conference. So we will be asking all presentation and workshop proposals to identify student engagement – this may be in the form of having students as part of the presenting team, or students may have been involved in the development, running or evaluation of projects being submitted.

We are delighted to be building on a very successful Learning and Teaching conference last year. We are also very pleased to have the opportunity to link up with the Visualisation in Science Conference, which was run for the first time in MVLS in April this year, to make a two day event celebrating and disseminating the best in learning and teaching at Glasgow

I look forward to welcoming you to our 11th annual conference, either as a presenter or as a delegate, so please save the date in your diaries.
