Revisions to the UofG's Course Evaluation Policy

Click here to find out about changes to the University’s Course Evaluation Policy. It comes in response to feedback from both administrative and academic staff.

The University’s Course Evaluation Policy (introduced for the 2015/6 academic session) has had minor revisions in response to feedback from both administrative and academic staff. The revised version has been approved by the Educational Policy and Strategy Committee, and will take effect from the 2017/8 academic session.

In summary, the main changes to the Policy are:

  • The requirements for CORE question 1 have been changed, so as to clearly distinguish between courses taught by one lecturer and courses taught by a team.
  • The flexibility inherent in the Policy has been emphasised, clearly identifying which aspects relate to decisions to be made locally within Schools, and which are mandated by the Policy.
  • A new question set for Online courses has been added.
  • The ‘Summary and Response Document’ (SaRD) template has been updated to include sections for positive student comments and staff reflection.
  • Specific guidance for lecturers seeking recognition on the basis of Teaching Excellence has been included.

The successful implementation of the Policy over the past two years has been largely due to the enormous efforts of the many EvaSys Administrators across the Schools, and associated academic leadership from School Learning & Teaching Convenors (or equivalent). We are now in a position where we can be sure that all courses are being evaluated regularly and consistently and that there are processes in place to ensure that student evaluations will lead to continuous course enhancement.
