The Library's pilot of 24-hour opening over winter exams has proved popular.

‌Students responded well to 24-hour opening, appreciating the choice it gave them to manage their time over the busy revision and examination period.

The Library was very popular throughout the pilot, on average over 300 visits during the additional opening hours each day. The busiest few days were from December 4-8, particularly between 3-7am.  Normally the Library is closed between 2-7am.‌

The pilot has been a great opportunity to learn more about what students want to support their learning and studies, particularly around opportunities to provide additional catering options, support for student wellbeing and access to space and electronic resources.

"Happy with the outcome"

Hannah-May Todd , VP Education Students’ Representative Council commented: "We are really happy with the outcome of this 24-hour pilot. The Library have been very receptive to student feedback and we have really enjoyed working in partnership with them on numerous innovative projects, from this to the family-friendly study space. We look forward to continue working together on new initiatives and finding ways to use the space there innovatively."

The pilot was delivered as a partnership project, supported by staff across Estates and Commercial Services, Information Services and the Student Representative Council. Staff support and the desire to make the pilot run as smoothly as possible was a great success. It has been an opportunity to work collaboratively across Services and Teams to develop student focussed service enhancement.

24-hour opening, along with other recent initiatives such as the Family Study Lounge and Reflection, Prayer and Wellbeing Space, demonstrate how the Library is listening to students and delivering options to enable access to learning spaces and resources, fitting into busy and demanding student schedules. The Library hopes to continue with further space development, events and exciting service enhancements over the next 12 months.
