Angela Constance MSP visits UofG

The Scottish Government’s Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities met UofG's Professor Alison Phipps.

The Scottish Government’s Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities, Angela Constance MSP visited UofG on Wednesday 24th May.

Constance met with the University’s newly established Chair in Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts, Professor Alison Phipps, and Professor Tariq Durrani of the UK National Commission for UNESCO. As well as two artists in residence who are part of the new UNESCO Chair programme, Gameli Tordzro and Tawona Sitholé.

Professor Durrani’s presentation highlighted the value of UNESCO designations to Scotland in economic and cultural terms and Professor Phipps discussed the importance of integrating research with both the arts and with multilingual environments.

The meeting also included music and poetry contributions from the artists on the themes of migration.
