Have Your Say on the review of the University’s Flexible Working Policy

Published: 3 May 2019

The University is reviewing its flexible working policy. Take your chance to get involved.

The 2018 Staff Survey established that 49% of respondents felt supported to have a good work-life balance and, as a result, the University’s Senior Management Group (SMG) has endorsed a review of the University’s flexible working policy framework.

Christine Barr, Executive Director of Human Resources, said: “This review supports an enabling culture where a healthy work-life balance is the norm and contribution is measured through outputs aligned with University values and strategic aims.”

As part of the policy development process, a series of initial focus groups are scheduled to take place on the following dates:

Monday, 20 May, 2019

  • 10:00 to 12:00
  • 13:00 to 15:00

Friday, 24 May, 2019

  • 10:00 to 12:00
  • 13:00 to 15:00

Interested colleagues can register for one of the sessions.

These initial sessions will be held on the main campus, within the Western Infirmary Lecture Theatre (WILT), with more details to follow. Further sessions will be planned (subject to demand) at other locations.

The information gathered through the consultation process will be used to:

  • build a better understanding of the extent and nature of existing flexible working practices
  • understand potential challenges around flexible working
  • assess the effectiveness of the existing Flexible Working Policy
  • inform the development of a new flexible working framework, aligned to the strategic aims of the University
  • inform the University’s Athena SWAN application

Colleagues who are interested but unable to attend these initial sessions (or who wish to participate through other means) may wish to join the conversation on Yammer (UofG Have Your Say) or by emailing haveyoursay@glasgow.ac.uk.
