National Pay Award - AY 2022/23

Published: 11 August 2022

The University has announced the pay uplift commencing in August

The annual pay negotiations at a national level involving the employers’ organisation, UCEA, and the recognised trades unions have now concluded without agreement on the final offer of a base pay uplift of 3% with higher increases of up to 9% for pay points below SCP 20 from 1 August 2022.

UCEA has advised participating institutions to proceed to implement the pay uplift and the University therefore plans to apply this uplift in the August salary payment. The 3% uplift will be applied to all spinal points on the University’s pay spine from SCP 20 and above, with additional loading for those salary points below SCP 20 in the continuing effort to address salary differentials within lower grades.  Salary increases on points 3, 4 and 5 are inclusive of the voluntary real living wage applied in November 2021 as part of our commitment as an accredited Voluntary Living Wage Employer.  We expect The Living Wage Foundation to apply a cost of living uplift to the Voluntary Living Wage to be announced later this year in September at which time we will provide a further update on our payment plans in this regard.

The University recognises the impact of rising inflation and cost-of-living pressures experienced by colleagues. We remain committed to working in partnership with our recognised campus trade union colleagues with discussions continuing at a local level to address pay relativity issues and ensure that our colleagues are appropriately rewarded within the national Framework Agreement and related pay bargaining machinery.  We will update you further if and when there are any significant outcomes from these discussions.

In the interim, the updated pay scales effective from 1 August 2022 can be viewed on our HR webpages
