UofG working with IntoUniversity to engage with young people in Govan and Maryhill

The Widening Participation team are recruiting volunteers to engage in a brand-new programme of events in the Govan and Maryhill community.

The University is working in partnership with IntoUniversity to provide extra support and academic activities to young people from P4-S6 in the Govan and Maryhill areas. The IU centres have been established in these areas as a central place for young people to meet, learn and understand what a university can offer. The team have a wide range of programmes aimed at all ages to help support the students’ development in academia and in other skills such as teamwork, confidence building and communication. Through these programmes, students engage with academics, current university students and community members to expand their understanding of careers, university and further study.

The WP team and the IU centre are keen to engage with any staff members who would like to volunteer their time to support in the programmes currently being delivered in these two centres. Volunteer opportunities include academic contribution in the style of a lecture, presentation or workshop, support during our student Q&As with primary pupils or volunteering time to contribute to the mentorship scheme.

This opportunity gives volunteers the chance to engage with young learners and develop new and existing material for all ages. These programmes are an opportunity to inspire students and to develop their understanding of higher education, working with young people within Glasgow communities.

Please contact Yvonne Vaca Stillie for more information on how to get involved.
