Professor Frank Coton to be Senior Vice Principal and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic)
Following the announcement that Professor Neal Juster will be leaving the University to become Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln, Professor Frank Coton has agreed to serve as the Principal’s senior academic deputy on the Senior Management Group and will be Senior Vice Principal and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic). As such he will chair Senate, Senior Leaders Forum and SMG when the Principal is not able to do so. Other members of SMG will also deputise externally for the Principal on occasion, and those arrangements will be put in place in due course.
Professor Coton will also be Vice Principal (Strategy and Resources). Having led the University’s budgeting process and academic planning for the past two years, he will now also assume responsibility for delivery of University strategy and monitoring KPIs. He will continue to bring strategic oversight of the important IT investments planned for the University as chair of Information Policy and Strategy Committee.
Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary Dr David Duncan will take over the responsibility for the delivery of the Estates Plan in the Senior Management Group. As Executive Director of Finance, Gregor Caldow will assume oversight of the Strategic Property Investment Board.

But I am delighted that Frank has agreed to take on the role of Senior Vice Principal and Deputy VC (Academic). The changes I am making within the Senior Management Group following Neal’s departure will ensure that all the aspects of his strategically important remit will be taken forward successfully, with the right level of focus and oversight.”
