Staff are reminded that in recognition of the University’s commitment to compliance with data protection legislation and promotion of best practice in information security, completion of both online training modules has been made mandatory for all members of staff.

Completion of the training is required before the current year’s P&DR cycle closes. The information security module has also been made mandatory for all PGR students and the data protection module mandatory for those students processing personal data.

Dr Dorothy Welch, Convenor of the University’s Information & Data Governance Group, fully endorsed this commitment, saying: "The University takes seriously the use of personal and other data and recognises the need for staff and students to be aware of the steps they need to take to ensure that this is appropriately looked after. It’s for this reason that the training was developed."

Both modules, available via Moodle, end with a brief assessment which you are required to pass and have been developed specifically with the University’s requirements in mind. The data protection (GDPR) module will help to ensure that you are fully aware of the implications that the recent changes in data protection legislation may have on how we all manage personal data. The information security module will help you keep your data safe and avoid the various "cyber" threats we all now face.

Both modules can be directly accessed from the top of the MyGlasgow staff portal or via Moodle.
