Principal to take part in Brexit expert panel discussion at UofG

Stevenson Trust for Citizenship event will be held on Monday, 17 December, at the Bute Hall
As the political uncertainty around the UK’s impending departure from the EU intensifies, Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli will take part in an expert panel discussion on Brexit at the University next week.
The event, organised by the Stevenson Trust for Citizenship, will also hear from Professor Sir John Curtice of the University of Strathclyde; Kirsty Hughes, Director of the Scottish Centre on European Relations; and Professor Anand Menon, of King’s College London and Director of The UK in a Changing Europe.
Taking place in the Bute Hall at 6pm on Monday, 17 December, attendance is on a first come, first served basis.
Ahead of the event, Sir Anton said: “Brexit is clearly an event which would have the deepest ramifications for our University community. As a proudly international institution whose campus is enriched every day by our thousands of students and staff from the EU, nothing could be more important.
“We are now at a crucial stage in the process at which everything is up for grabs – and it is vital that those of us who value our relationship with our friends and neighbours in Europe make our voices heard.
“That is why events like this, organised by the Stevenson Trust for Citizenship, are so important as an effort to not only ensure public engagement at this vital time, but also to ensure that the public debate is informed by the evidence in what are clearly chaotic times.
“I am delighted at the level of expertise which will be on the panel, which is testament to our University’s place as the leading forum in Scotland for experts in their field to give their views on what is clearly the most important public issue of our times – and I would urge as many of our staff and students as possible to attend on Monday evening.”
