Dear Colleagues

The University’s Staff Survey was initially scheduled to close today, Friday 5th October. In response to feedback provided via Heads of School & Directors of Research Institutes and the Engagement Lead Network, we will now close the survey a week later on Friday 12th October. We hope that this extension will enable colleagues who have been unable to compete the survey until now due to the launch of the academic year and the closure of the PDR process the additional time they need to have their say.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to participate so far. Your responses are hugely valuable and will go on to inform action planning activity at both local and University-wide levels, making the University an even greater place to work. Look out for further updates coming soon!

But things never change…

We know that some colleagues may be reluctant to participate as they do not believe that anything will change. We’d like to challenge that, and this year’s survey asks “I believe that action will be taken following this survey”. This, amongst many others, will be a hugely important metric going forward as we seek to open up new communication channels in order to improve the way we listen, act and share updates on the many improvements that take place every year. It’s a message endorsed by Craig Daly, Honorary Secretary of the University and College Union.

Concerns around confidentiality?

We also understand that some colleagues have not participated due to concerns around the use of personalised links. We would like to address this directly in order to provide reassurance that data gathered is controlled by ORC International* and not the University. ORC will only share results in an aggregated, anonymous format and there is a strict rule in place to ensure that the University only receives data where the groups involved contain 10 or more individuals. There is absolutely no exception to this. Personalised links serve to ensure that there is a degree of control over who completes the survey (instead of posting a generic link that anyone, internal or external, can follow).

We hope that the above provides some reassurance and would like to ask anyone still to participate to take their chance to have their say. We will ask ORC to resend links one final time next Wednesday for anyone who may have lost their original link.

Yours sincerely

The Engagement Steering Group
