Issued: Fri, 09 Oct 2020 10:00:00 BST
As we mark the beginning of Black History Month at the University, we bring you a packed programme of events to enjoy throughout the month of October.
Bonnie Dean, Race Equality Champion for UofG, looks forward to welcoming you to our Black History Month events. “Although our Black History Month events may be taking a different format this year, we are thrilled to share with you an exciting schedule with a variety of events, organised by our staff and students, which can be enjoyed from the safety of your own home.”
The events include:
- the annual James McCune Smith Lecture, delivered this year by Professor Matthew Smith from UCL
- the launch of the Beniba Centre for Slavery Studies
- a discussion with Martin Plaut (BBC correspondent) on his book about Dr Abdurahman, a UofG alumnus
- a Creative Conversation with Booker Prize winner Bernadine Evaristo
In addition, there are discussions on use of the term BAME, on being Queer and Black, and an event entitled “Who tells our ancestral histories?”.
